East Coast Nakatunobers:
Dear Dwight and Jojo,
It's been a while since I last talked to you guys. I am so compelled to give you feedback about the recent Reunion over the weekend in LA, California attended by ten (10) friends from UP Cebu HS. These ten classmates, aka "Nakatunobers" (as in Nakatunob sa UP Foundation group) had a BLAST !!!!!! It was so nice seeing the following :
1) Pinky Murillo-Magno and her husband Bimboy and guapong anak Anton. She has done a wonderful job of reconnecting all of us over the years. Guwapa lang guihapon si Pinky. 2) Gingging, Tom (her husband - who surprised me with his vast Cebuano vocabulary - nalupig akong bana si Allen), and son Michael who takes after singer Mom. Mike is the male version of Ging - I believe he is going to break many young girls' hearts. I was so touched listening to mother and son do a duet. 3) Elaine who flew in from Cebu with hubby Atty. Chito and only son Monching (somebody started a rumor about Elaine having gotten very very fat - they say it was Viking). So, our LA hosts (Bimbo and Greg) were expecting a "dabiana" that Bimbo had to reinforce the bed and Greg bringing a van to the airport so as to make the Cebu guest comfortable. They were too disappointed because Elaine looks very good ( only 10 lbs heavier), thanks to her Ballroom Dancing therapy !!!!!!! 4) Chatto, Rowen, and their cute little girl. Chatto hasn't changed at all, humble lang guihapon ning atong classmate who got a scholarship at AIM after she left Viva Films. Yes, she was part of Sharon Cuneta's success! 5) Dedette without her executive ( from Lucent Technologies) husband. Dedette does research at UCLA but this is only second to her current passion, day trading. Yes Dwight, we did have a millionaire in our midst !!!!!!! Dedette looked very sophisticated. 6) Loren Escano who still looks like the Loren we knew 25 yrs ago (not an ounce of fat) although
with mustache na karon. He was the first one to throw in his share for the Foundation, then we followed
7) Uly Salazar (who just came back from Cebu for his mom's funeral) and his nice wife Linda and three lovely children . Uly is another friend who is doing well personally and professionally. he was at one time nuclear engineer for GE.
8) Bimbo Fernandez and his wonderful wife Gemma and two children (maayo na lang kay liwat ni Gemma dili niya, ha, ha, ha) were our gracious hosts. The best lechon I ever had in the US was at Bimbo's. He could very well compete with "Lechon ni Mang Tomas". It was really good, I already have a suggestion for name, why not "Lechon ni Iyo Bimbo"? and
9) Greg with looker-wife Mercy and their only child Gregga who towers over Greg. Sus, Greg kept dishing out the jokes (mostly green) I did
lose my voice and had to take two days sick leave when I got back.
We had a lot of fun starting with the Friday Dinner at Kapistahan (at Cerritos) followed by late
night coffee at Hilton in Anaheim. The whole night was just laughter, we had to take turns going to the bathroom(kay nakaihi-ihi ug katawa). The next day, our families went to Universal Studios and ended with lechon party and karaoke night at Bobbimzzz. It was nice sharing old friends with our respective families. It was indeed a fantastic experience that no money can buy (to repeat Greg's description of it). I thank God for wonderful times with friends like this one. I hope that last week's event is just the start of many more reunions with classmates, specially now that we have this foundation. Let's not wait for another 25 years though.
Elaine is right now in the East Coast and I hope she will send me her schedule - we might be able to wangle a quick meeting with her and Chatto since all three of us are in proximity.
We did discuss the economic aspect of the Nakatunob Foundation. We are close to our financial goal gauging from the contribution from last week's attendance. Elaine has the list of individual contributions made last week. According to her, the Cebu group already has P10,000.00. We are probably running around P50,000.00 now if we convert the dollars contributed last week at the LA Reunion. By way of this mail, we are encouraging the others to turn in their donations to Elaine or Alvin.
To celebrate our 25th Year, we plan to have some sort of a yearbook. Hopefully, this tradition will be carried over by the next batch and so on. Greg, Pinky, Chatto, and Ging are working on that.
Sorry you missed a wonderful weekend with old friends. I think Uly and Bimbo are working on aWebPage and they will feature pictures of the LA reunion.
Take care ya all !!!!
Love, Suzanne Gotera-Jackson
Nakatunobers Reunion A Big Success!!!! Thank You Southern California!!!!!
From our East Coast Invaders:
Hi, all!
I had a wonderful time. It was so good to see all of you again.
Bimbo, thank you so much for the warm hospitality (And I don't just mean the lechons and talaba). Extend my thanks to Gemma for being such a gracious hostess (as if dugay nang kaila tanan)...It was such a pleasure meeting everybody and all your families (I have got to say this: our kids are so much smarter and better looking than us-- even from 25 years ago!!)...
Uly, thanks for the ride (make that a capital R). You have such a beautiful family (regards to Lynda and give Kaela, Joshua and Brittany a hug from us).
Ging, thanks for the entertainment (if you change your mind about your son being in the movies, just let me know..I do still have current connections with VIVA Films).
Greg, please keep a diary of how you handled Gregga's teen years 'cause pretty soon, Therese will be entering that interesting phase and I will be consulting with you on how to keep Rowen from going nuts (or bald but I will probably have to get that advise somewhere else)!!!
Shazanne, thanks for flying all the way out to California (didto pa ta nagkita nga silingan ra man unta ta). We need to stay in touch and get together with the East Coast folks like Dwight, Anna, Danny and Cora...
Oy next time we have a reunion, let''s meet halfway para dili mi malat-an sa gastos [but I'm not complaining, I thought it was worth every penny]. Mora ba'g ang MasterCard commercial: plane ticket: $$$, hotel accommodation: $$$, tickets to Universal Studios: $$, dinner at Kapistahan: $$, seeing high school classmates after 25 years: PRICELESS... Hearing Gorio's and Bimbo's jokes in person: PRICELESS.
Brad
Pinky, a special thanks to you for organizing this whole thing (or for the SINGKA, that made sure all these happened).
Dedette and Loren, thanks for taking the time out from your busy schedules to join us in the tivities... even if it meant that you were not able to trade stocks (Dette) or sell tickets for a good cause (Loren)... And Elaine, thanks for taking notes
so we can get our foundation going.... and for travelling all the way from the Philippines to see all of us (now, that's priceless..). Do call me when you get to the East Coast. My phone number is (___)___-___. You and Monching and Chito are welcome at my humble adobo, I mean adobe...
I am already looking forward to the next reunion. Here are a couple of pictures from Kapistahan..

Pinks and All:
Sorry it took me this long to break my silence after our reunion...just some catching up to do and more, I'm sure it's also true to most if not the rest of you...
For 2 years in a row now that we have had an explosive and successful reunion. LEscano said it best,"so sad when reunions come to an end" but I take that as another beginning of Bigger and Bigger reunions to come, which has first convinced me after our blastic reunion at GingGang's place in Pleasanton up there in SFO area at about the same time last year. We proved that once again after last weekend's reunion here in LA. But I think it should take more than a weekend to do it the next time around, because as we grow bigger, the less time we spend to one another but on the other hand, it keeps us clamoring for more (pirme bi-tin)...whatever is the consensus on this one, the bottom line is... reunion will always be fun...for us who's been out of touch for the past 25 years or so...And it was fun and rewarding to be one of the hosts for such event...because as we start seeing your smiling faces, then you will know that the anxieties that everybody should be having a wonderful time makes the reunion even more enjoyable!!!! I would like to thank Pinky and Pary Gary for forever being there to offer their help, concerns and suggestions to make the event easier and manageable for us!!!! Pinks, I didn't make it happen, we all made it happened!!! Pre, I'm not the man because we're all the men for it!!!! Us hosts, and those who came to join us!!!! So we should all thank ourselves for making it happened!!!!!
Bernadette, inspite of your tight agenda and responsibilities, you came down and made up for not making it on our what Uly called, "Saturday Night Karambola" because of your sick anak-anak, by inviting those who were still available for a DIMSUM luncheon on Sunday!!! It's a good thing, there were still "Bulldozers" like us who were still available!!!! Lorenzo, bay we were content at first that you'll be able to make it to our Friday Night Singles Out, but making it all the way through our SNK, is quite a plus!!! But tossing the first .00 check for the foundation is even more remarkable!!!! In fact, it set the tone for everybody to start digging into their wallets and checkbook. Dr. Elaine's Mission of Operation:P40,000.00 Kulang for the foundation was answered right there and then!!!! Consider this, 8 times .00 plus Dedette's given on Sunday, then convert that to the $ to peso rate, well...ask Mr. Lutao to do the Math folks!!!! And we're not counting what the Densely Walleted East Coast people has in store yet!!! Dwight, Imok, Cora-ding, Danny, Annalangga (Now we hear, Now we don't!!! Ga, wa bitaw table nga-ri day, oy?!?!) Do I hear .00 from each of you guys? But please don't rush too much, because Elaine will be here in the USA until the first week of June and she's monitoring us through her e-mail address: dr_elaine@yahoo.com.
Laine it was so nice to know Chito more inspite of our short and meager time spent together and pat your backs for bringing up a well mannered Monching into your lives!!!! I somehow have forgotten that there are still courteous and polite kids like that considering how we're getting accustomed to how kids grow up here in the states!!!! Or is it just mine? Again, if you decide to make LA as your jumping ground before heading home, the reinforced bed is still intact waiting for you guys...so let me know, as the commercial goes..."I'll keep the lights on for you"..
Shzanne, thanks for being a good sport!!! it just shows how much we love you...that you are a darling!!!! Your highly energetic, free and open personality is just too irresistible!!! Mag-pa-ma-ak ang mga tawo nimo!!! Bitaw shzanne, you are fun to be with!!!!
Chat, I thought I'll be seeing another live version of Betty Boop...but I've met another version of Sharon Cunet-a instead!!! Even Therese, is a Sharon Cunet-a Jr. too!!!! Chat, can you chat to Rowen that if he's interested, I might tape a video for some karaoke songs for him that is, if you guys have
not decided to buy the latest hi-tech karaoke machines yet. I don't have much in my collection because I only do it when I'm around with Pare Gary who has a considerable amount of collection of it. I'm sure Pare will be more than willing to help me on this!!!
GingGang, ang akong balhibo manlimbawot gyud inig kanta nimo...mo rise up gayud!!! I told Tom he must be the luckiest husband in the world having a talented wife like you!!! I'm sure it's not only the balhibo will rise off him but the thing that matters to you most!!!! Now I know what your secret is, if you need one!!!! Most of all, seeing you and Michael singing together just blow me out! It won't be long to see a Nakatunober Mother and Son Duo making it to the charts!!!! Will you guys work on it por favor?!?!
Uly Boy, Gemma admires the down to earthness of your better half Linda!!! Is that xyzxyg, what you see is what you get!!! I was also made into a bum when Gemma saw you carrying that heavy twin stroller as we descended down that giant escalator at Universal Studios...but we're even when our little ones love to cuddle with us...especially when they're 2 lovely twins!!! But you're a cheater when you pretend to wet yourselves together with Kaela with the splash of the Jurassic ride and leave her by herself when it came down to the real Splash!!!! If a lot us is exhausted, you must be the most beat up guy of all!!! A couple of days before the reunion, you just came from 2 to 3 weeks of vigil from watching your mom in the hospital upto her interment...then the jet lag and driving down here to LA, then you have to chase your kids at Disneyland and Universal!!! Then on to our latenight activities and all...then drive back home to Vacaville up north at the Sacramento area...work the following day then work on our web site!!!!
Folks, our web site is not that ripe yet... haphazrdly done write-ups and a lot of blank captions and what have you...this is where you all have to come in anyway...your inputs and articles to make it better...but I know you're all excited to see some pictures...oh just see it for yourselves... our address is www.nakatunob.20m.com or ttp://nakatunob.20m.com
Pinks, we really have come a long way since I've found your e-mail address at the Cebu web site CSI.com about 2 to 3 years ago...the first few things we have discussed was REUNION and it sounded like a very good example of "'WISHFUL THINKING" that time.. Then, to think we have done it twice here in the states already and yet we can feel bigger things to come, is really amazing....I think we just have to give a lot of thanks to the advent of the Internet!!!!
Next stop.....the East Coast???????????
